"One of the best kept secrets of SF!"
This place is great. Yes, the rooms are small. But this place makes up for it elsewhere. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, the space is used very efficiently, the facilities may look Victorian era, but are very functional, the location can't be beat (especially for the price), and the all-around atmosphere was great. Our window overlooked an alley (best looking alley I've ever seen), and there is an artist who lives right behind the place (he's pretty good). Plus, the Italian restaurant downstairs is fantastic.
Now for the bad stuff (all minor annoyances, and I stress minor). There is no clock in the room. The trash truck comes on Wednesday morning and the delivery truck for the restaurant downstairs comes on Thursday. It's pretty loud. The two cleaning ladies will wake you up at exactly 9:06 every morning with their loud voices and vacuuming. The bed also has a plastic covering that's pretty noisy.
Those are my only complaints from a fantastic stay. Thanks Robert and the rest of the staff! We'll be back there if and when we're in SF again.

"Amazing and quirky"
We just returned from a trip from San Francisco up through Napa and finally Trinidad. I had not scheduled the Hotel in San Francisco because we were not sure of how long we would be there, So glad we found this gem! the location is perfect, the rooms adorable, and the price awesome!!! We will certainly return again and this time get the room with two twin beds (they only have rooms with one full or two twins) the full is a bit small for my big Texas Hubby.

"The staff was always helpful and kind."
Free coffee and liquorice. Great jazz coming from the open windows of the italian place downstairs. Though the bathrooms and showers are shared, availability was never an issue.
